Recommendations for Choosing the Right House Painting Company
Picking the right house painting company doesn’t have to be frustrating. We have some tips that can help you narrow down your choices and pick the right house painting service for you.
First, ask about the house painting company’s experience. You want a painter with experience in painting homes. That does not necessarily rule out new companies, but if you do go with a newer company, the owners and managers should still have experience. You should be able to see before and after photos of their previous projects. Check out their work and see if it matches what you need in a painting company.
Do your friends, family, or neighbors have recommendations? We love a great Google or Yelp review, but nothing compares to word-of-mouth. If you are in any neighborhood groups, ask your neighbors for help with recommendations. They can tell you painters that they have used and like. They can also tell you about painters they think you should avoid. Word of mouth is a great place to start.
Look at reviews on the Internet. If the house painting company has user reviews on their website, take those with a grain of salt. Remember, companies are not going to highlight negative reviews. So, check on third party review sites. Keep in mind that people are more likely to leave reviews if they are very, very happy or very, very unhappy. As a result, the reviews may be skewed. A company with a few one-star reviews may still be great. If all of their reviews are negative, however, you should beware. You can also go on the Better Business Bureau website to see if they have any complaints.
Is the house painting company licensed and insured? Being licensed and insured does not mean that the painter will do a better job, but these credentials do protect you. Without insurance, you are responsible if someone on their crew gets injured on your property. You may also be out tons of money if they break or destroy anything in or around your home. It’s always best to choose a company that is insured.
Ask if they have any projects you can look at. Pictures are great, but it is even better if you can go look at the properties in person. They should also be able to give you prior customers to call as references.
Check what type of paint they use. You can probably choose whatever paint you prefer, but there is a huge variance in paint costs. If you are at the point of getting estimates, make sure that you get an estimate for the type of paint that you want in your finished project.
